The project also aims to improve matchday traffic management and align with other developments currently underway in the area. The scope of planned improvements includes Walton Breck Road, Oakfield Road, Pulford Street, Back Rockfield Road, and Gilman Street, focusing on enhancing aesthetics, safety, and accessibility.

Key elements of the proposal include: improved public spaces and pedestrian connectivity, new tree plantings and green landscaping (excluding Pulford Street and Back Rockfield Road), upgraded pavements and surfaces using high-quality materials, road resurfacing and drainage upgrades, new street lighting, a mini-roundabout at Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road junction, traffic calming through narrowed roads and speed reduction, and revised parking and pedestrian crossing arrangements.

The city wants to hear the community’s voice

This is part of a wider £250 million community investment programme that has already delivered over 600 new homes and significant improvements around Anfield. Residents, commuters, and local stakeholders are encouraged to fill out an online survey or visit the consultation hub at The Liverpool Lighthouse on Oakfield Road. There, they can view detailed designs, visualisations, the construction timeline, and expected community benefits. Feedback collected by 22 August will be reviewed by Liverpool City Council and the scheme’s designer, Aecom, ahead of a final design (stage 2).

Councillor Dan Barrington, cabinet member for transport and connectivity, emphasised that the scheme aims not only to improve infrastructure but also to create a safer, greener, and more welcoming environment for residents, workers, and visitors. Councillor Nick Small, responsible for growth and economy, added that the proposal directly responds to community needs. Upgrades to lighting, safer crossings, new green areas, and improved access reflect local feedback. Both councillors urge residents to take part and help shape the future of Walton Breck Road.
