El Plantío is on the verge of major changes. Under the current lease agreement, the club is obligated to modernize the main stand — the only one yet to undergo full renovation. Time is running out, and pressure is building.

Binding agreement, but big ambitions
As part of the agreement with the City Council, Burgos CF leases the stadium for 40 years in exchange for a commitment to upgrade the infrastructure. Three of the four stands have already been renovated, leaving only the most important — the main stand. Club president Marcelo Figoli, who has been at the helm for a year and a half, sees this obligation not as a burden but as an opportunity for growth.
The club is about to start its fifth consecutive season in the Segunda División, but its ambitions go beyond the pitch. The management also aims to improve stadium facilities to meet the expectations of their supporters — who, in turn, are increasingly turning to alternative forms of entertainment, such as online gaming. One such platform, part of the growing trend of popular betting sites, offers a wide selection of sports betting, casino games, and attractive welcome bonuses.
According to Figoli’s vision, the redevelopment won’t be limited to just the main stand. The plan includes raising and connecting the two end stands with the new main stand. The result would be a much more modern, comfortable venue with a capacity of up to 19,000 spectators — an increase of 6,500 from the current figure. This would be Figoli’s first major investment in Spanish football.
Unanswered questions and temporary solutions
Although the project is beginning to take shape, it’s still unclear how the club intends to carry out construction without disrupting the league season. Burgos CF is reportedly considering several scenarios, including temporarily relocating home matches to another venue — possibly a modular stadium. However, the City Council has yet to receive any formal request on the matter.
César Barriada, the city councillor in charge of sports, stated that local authorities have not been provided with any detailed information about the planned redevelopment of El Plantio or potential matchday alternatives. He added that the club is still working on the necessary documentation, while the Council continues to monitor compliance with the current agreement. He stressed that once a decision is made, all parties involved will need to sit down and assess the available options, taking into account both procedural and financial requirements.
The club’s board has announced its intention to begin construction in the summer of next year, but no official schedule has been released. Barriada noted that if the redevelopment is carried out as one large-scale project, a solution will need to be found to ensure continuity of home matches. Ultimately, the responsibility for these decisions lies with the club. Meanwhile, the City Council continues to oversee adherence to the agreement, ensuring that required documents are submitted and any errors corrected.
Under the concession agreement for El Plantío, Burgos CF was supposed to present plans for the new stands by April 5 of this year. It had already become clear that the deadline would not be met — and now, with June well underway, concrete details are still missing.
