The project to build a new stadium in Cagliari has taken a significant step forward. What will the investment cost?
The funds crucial for the investment can now be officially released. At the end of May, the project received its final amendments. The total cost of the investment is €209,910,700.65, of which €10 million is covered by the Municipality of Cagliari and €50 million by the Sardinia Region. The remaining €149,910,700.64 will be financed by a private investor. The public financial contribution will cover elements of the project carried out through an international tender.
Preparations for construction underway
The next step — before construction begins and prior to the planned demolition of the Stadio Sant’Elia — will be a Technical Services Conference scheduled for July 3. Its goal is to issue the regional environmental decision (PAUR). We are working to provide Cagliari fans with a new home, also in the context of the 2032 European Football Championship,
said Mayor Massimo Zedda.
Cagliari’s president, Tommaso Giulini, expressed confidence that the club’s goal is to complete all procedures by 2025 and start construction. In case of delays, a temporary modernization of Unipol Domus is planned. The new stadium will be named after Gigi Riva, the legend of Sardinian football. The timeline foresees a public tender announcement in autumn 2025, with the tender decision in spring 2026, enabling construction to commence.
