Manchester City and construction partner Sisk have marked a key milestone in the £300 million expansion of the stadium’s North Stand — reaching the highest point of the structure.

What does the redevelopment include?
During a special ceremony, the final steel beam was symbolically installed, signifying the completion of the main structural work. Once finished, the redevelopment will increase the Etihad Stadium’s capacity to over 60,000 spectators, making it one of the largest football stadiums in England. The project also includes a covered fan zone for 3,000 people, a state-of-the-art club museum, and a range of year-round dining options.
Beyond sports facilities, the investment includes The Medlock — a 401-room hotel operated in partnership with Radisson. The expanded complex will also feature office space and entertainment areas, aiming to boost the area’s appeal beyond matchdays.
Modernised stadium – a catalyst for wider regeneration
The topping out
ceremony on May 7 was attended by club representatives, Sisk, Manchester City Council Leader Bev Craig, and on-site apprentices. Attendees signed a commemorative artwork that will be displayed permanently in the new museum. The construction has employed 86 apprentices and trainees through Sisk’s supply chain, including 62 from Greater Manchester. The completed development is expected to create hundreds of permanent and temporary jobs, plus additional casual roles — supporting the economic revitalisation of East Manchester, a shared goal of both the club and local authorities.
When will the project be completed?
The expanded North Stand is scheduled to open during the 2025/26 season, with the hotel, fan zone, offices, and dining venues expected to be completed by the end of 2026. These new facilities will complement the neighbouring Co-Op Live arena — a 23,500-capacity venue being developed through a partnership between City Football Group and Oak View Group — together forming a vibrant entertainment district for the city.
