Turkey: Fenerbahçe has decided to modernize Ülker Stadium Fenerbahçe plans to take a significant step by increasing the capacity of its stadium to 65,000 seats. The club’s management believes that the current stadium, with a capacity of 47,000, does not meet expectations as it is unable to satisfy the growing demand from fans.

Increased capacity will help address financial issues

Work on this project will begin in the next season. The goal of this step is not only to meet fan expectations but also to increase revenue, which will allow the club to take a major step toward exiting the banking union. Although the main reason for this decision is financial, some board members have also pointed out the lack of available tickets for fans.

The new stadium will accommodate 65,000 people, with the first construction works expected to begin next spring. Thanks to the expansion of the facility, in addition to higher ticket revenue, the club also expects significant income from new VIP boxes that will be installed in the stadium. The Fenerbahçe management assumes that Ülker Stadium will not be shut down during the expansion, as a potential relocation could negatively affect the team. Therefore, it was decided that the work will be carried out in stages. Regardless of whether the team wins the championship this season, the stadium expansion project will commence.

Stadium modernization is not the only plan for Fenerbahçe

However, the Fenerbahçe board is not limited to just expanding the stadium. Recently, shares were sold, marking the first step toward the club's ambitious financial plans. Board member Erol Bilecek is set to present more detailed information about these actions on April 26. One of the key projects is an investment in real estate, which includes the former Kenan Evren school site. This project plans to build a shopping center, office buildings, apartment complexes, and residential units, which are expected to contribute to increasing the club’s revenue.
