Amazing atmosphere and massive crowd
This time, it happened during a European competition. A total of 56,442 fans filled the stands – a number that will go down in club history for European matches. Even before kickoff, with a spectacular light show setting the stage, the atmosphere was electric as Betis supporters took their seats. When the players entered the pitch, the crowd broke into the club anthem, echoing throughout the stadium. A striking tifo display from the Gol Sur stand symbolized the fans' dreams. In accordance with UEFA regulations, 5% of the stadium's capacity was allocated to visiting supporters – around 3,000 Jagiellonia fans occupied the away section, known as La Jaula
, in the upper corner between the Gol Norte and Fondo stands.
New European match attendance record for Betis
This broke the previous record for a European fixture at Benito Villamarín – 55,300 spectators for the Champions League group stage game against Anderlecht on December 6, 2005. It also surpassed the March 16, 2023, Europa League round of 16 match against Manchester United, which drew 54,643 fans. It came just short of the all-time attendance record at Benito Villamarín this season – the 58,538 fans who witnessed the derby victory over Sevilla remain at the top.
