Inauguration in two years?
The investment cost exceeds €92 million, which will cover the construction of the stadium, making it the first public-funded facility in Italy to be built after a long hiatus. The total cost of the entire project is €315 million.
The design of the stadium has been entrusted to Maffeis Engineering and Populous, firms specializing in the design of sports and entertainment venues. Work on the project began after a consortium of companies—Costruzioni Bordignon, Fincantieri Infrastrutture, and Ranzato Impianti—won the tender for the construction in March 2024. The stadium will be a modern Class A facility with a capacity of 18,500 seats. The construction site will be prepared in the coming days, with construction work scheduled to begin in July, and the opening expected in spring 2027.
What will the investment include?
The form of the stadium is inspired by the surrounding landscape. The curved lines of the design refer to the natural shapes of the land, creating a harmonious blend with the nearby arena and sports center. The external facade will feature vertical elements rising upwards, creating a curtain
effect on the upper part of the stadium. This solution draws inspiration from the rhythm of the facades of historic buildings in Venice, giving the stadium a sense of lightness and spaciousness while allowing a view of the interior from the outside.
The stadium’s construction also includes a semi-circular stand that surrounds the stadium, providing parking spaces and other services. The stands extend across three sides of the stadium—south, east, and north. Populous designed the stands in such a way that spectators will have excellent visibility of the pitch, enhancing the excitement of the matches. The western stand will be reserved for VIPs, offering luxurious conditions and services in line with the best European standards. For the general public, there will be spaces with a gallery surrounding the entire stadium, offering exceptional views of the surrounding landscape.
The stadium has been designed to be accessible to all, adhering to the best inclusive design standards. It will host Serie A matches, rugby games, and live events such as concerts, making it even more attractive to the local community. The project also involves the companies Soil Engineering, Seingim, and Gae Engineering.
A special project for the entire region
Venice's mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, expressed pride in the presentation of this project, emphasizing that it is a symbol of the city’s rebirth. Massimo Maffeis, CEO of Maffeis Engineering, highlighted that, for them as people connected to Venice, this project holds special meaning. Silvia Prandelli, the lead designer at Populous Italia, noted that the stadium will provide Venice with the sports infrastructure it deserves, and its strategic location will attract many visitors from both within the country and abroad. Special attention has also been given to sustainability and accessibility: the stadium will be easily accessible thanks to an integrated network of roads, bike paths, appropriate parking spaces, and increased public transport connections.
