The East Stand has been added to the 20th Century Society's list as a sensitive architectural feature that may face neglect, demolition, or destruction.
The famous stand is described as meticulously crafted
with brutalist features.
It is also considered a unique architectural element
from the last two centuries. The 20th Century Society decided to add the East Stand to its list due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of St. James' Park.
Campaign director Oli Marshall told the BBC: This is an exciting new era for Newcastle, and the club must look to the future. However, we've included the East Stand on this year's risk list to highlight this extraordinary and historic brutalist structure. If the club plans to stay at the current site, we hope it will be preserved and become a signature feature.
