The president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, appears to consider Metropolitano as the favorite to host the 2027 Champions League final. He announced that the stadium had been selected—despite Atlético Madrid not yet completing the full documentation required to apply for hosting rights.

UEFA to decide in April
Surprised Atlético Madrid representatives urged Louzán to clarify his statement, explaining that it was merely a declaration of intent and optimism.
RFEF believes that Spain, Madrid, and specifically the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, are the best-prepared and most suitable venues for hosting this final,
he added.
Atlético Madrid’s stadium is among the finalists alongside Bakı Olimpiya Stadionu, but an official decision has yet to be made. The host selection for the 2027 Champions League final will be decided during the UEFA Congress on April 3 in Belgrade. The official announcement will take place in Bilbao during the Europa League final at San Mamés on May 21. Club officials emphasize that several formalities remain unresolved, such as obtaining permits from Madrid City Council and finalizing the work schedule, before a definitive decision can be made. Metropolitano previously hosted the Champions League final in 2019, when Liverpool faced Tottenham.
