What does the project include?

The environmental report, drafted on March 20, states that the primary goal of the project is to requalify part of the land, allowing for the stadium’s expansion, improvements to surrounding infrastructure, and the construction of a modern venue that meets international standards. Nuevo Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán is expected to accommodate around 55,000 spectators, with a design that lowers the pitch level, enabling 20,000 fans to access the stands without using stairs. Additionally, the plan includes dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility and commercial facilities to ensure year-round activity at the stadium.

Environmental group opposes report’s conclusions

The report recommends the second of the analyzed land-use options, considering it the best balance between stadium expansion, public space improvement, and minimal impact on local residents. A key aspect of this proposal is the reduction of green areas in the southern part of the plaza on Eduardo Dato Street. However, in exchange, a modern public space will be created, which is expected to benefit the local community. The project has faced criticism from environmental organizations. Ecologistas en Acción warns that the urban transformation will lead to a reduction of 10,380 m² of green space, which will be repurposed for private sports facilities. The organization argues that the area should be renovated rather than eliminated. Additionally, residents fear that year-round stadium activity will increase noise and other disturbances.

Seville’s authorities responded that environmental concerns will be reviewed in later stages of the urban planning process. The document is currently in a draft phase and will undergo public consultations, allowing residents to express their opinions. However, the report highlights that Sevilla FC’s project will not have a significant negative environmental impact, provided that specific ecological requirements are met.
