2025 also a year of reconstruction for El Arcángel
A name change isn’t the only transformation taking place. In 2025, more than three decades after its opening, the stadium will finally undergo a major reconstruction, aiming to put an end to years of makeshift solutions and unfinished developments. A key part of the work will be closing off the currently open eastern and southern façades, which will significantly improve the stadium’s overall appearance.
According to plans laid out by the City Council, the investment is being carried out in cooperation with Córdoba CF. Mayor José María Bellido emphasized that the city intends to finally address the unfinished business
surrounding the venue, while ensuring that the current changes will not hinder future expansion. The new façades are set to visually match the existing structure, and the design is already being prepared by the Municipal Department of Urban Planning. The city has allocated €850,000 in the 2025 budget for this purpose.
Other upgrades are also planned – from replacing the lighting system with LEDs to modernizing the VIP and press areas, as well as adapting the stadium’s infrastructure to meet LaLiga and UEFA requirements. Following Córdoba CF’s return to professional football, the club has intensified efforts to ensure El Arcángel is ready for top-tier competition. According to club CEO Antonio Fernández Monterrubio, the project gained momentum after the UEFA Nations League match between Spain and Serbia, held at the stadium in October 2024.
