Slovakia: Fk Inter Bratislava’s uncertain future and stadium struggles When FK Inter Bratislava returned to their former home stadium, Pasienky, before the current season, club officials, players, and fans were aware that this was only a temporary solution for the Bratislava club.

After many years, Inter is back home

However, the club's owner, Ján Palenčár, is concerned not only about the infrastructure for home matches. Before returning to Pasienky, Inter wandered across various pitches outside the capital. For a long time, they were based in Stupava and played matches in Dunajská Lužná. Currently, the yellow and black are stationed at the facility on Drieňová Street in the Ružinov district of Bratislava. Although the club wants to modernize the pitch, they are unable to do so at the moment.

The biggest problem for our Inter is the infrastructure – not just the stadium but also training grounds for the first team, youth, and children. Today, we train and play on Drieňová Street, a facility we rent from the city for the next 15 years. We've been talking for three years about wanting to renovate this stadium, but unfortunately, since June of last year, we haven't received a positive response from the city to invest and build on its property. I see this as a major issue, said Inter's owner, Ján Palenčár. While waiting for significant investments in sports infrastructure, fans often seek alternative forms of activity. One of them is undoubtedly casino games. To ensure you choose an offer that perfectly meets your expectations, check out reviews of the best slovenske online casino.

Bratislava urgently needs football pitches

In the current III Liga West season, Inter is aiming for promotion – after 18 rounds, they are in 4th place, just two points behind the leading duo Rača and Lehota pod Vtáčnikom. Inter will finish the season at Pasienky and plans to start the next one there as well. Another problem is the stadium for the first team. Pasienky is in a condition that will allow us to play there for maybe a year or a year and a half. By that time – hopefully already in the second league – we will have to figure out what to do next, added Palenčár.

The management of the two-time Slovak champion sees relocating to Ružinov as the main alternative, but not to Drieňová Street. Currently, there is one stadium in Bratislava where project documentation is being prepared for modernization to meet second-league standards. It is located in Ružinov. I hope this stadium will be successfully renovated in cooperation with the Slovak Football Association, the Ružinov district, and – I believe – with our contribution as Inter Bratislava, allowing us to play there, Palenčár explained. The stadium in question is on Sklenárová Street, which the district purchased in 2021 along with a nearby art school.

What was lost at Pasienky is gone forever

The priority for Inter is to remain in Bratislava after returning to Pasienky. The situation was explained by Czechoslovak football legend and FK Inter Bratislava president, Jozef Barmoš: For us, playing and training outside Bratislava is very inconvenient and painful. The bronze medalist from Euro 1980 also reflected on the difficult beginnings of the reborn Inter after losing its professional status in 2009 and selling its top-flight license to Senica.

We’ve been through a lot over the years. We played against village teams in the lowest league, trained in various places – in Austrian Wolfsthal, in Hungary, in Dunajská Lužná, in Vajnory, and in Stupava on Záhorie. Unfortunately, what we lost at Pasienky is probably gone forever. From the very bottom, Inter's passionate supporters managed to lift the club to the second league in the 2017/2018 season, only to leave the competition after one year.

To be honest, after playing in the second league, I thought our journey would take a different direction. However, some decisions made by the former owner were not well thought out. Nevertheless, we must thank him, and I believe that Ján Palenčár, with our help, will succeed in bringing Inter back to where it belongs, concluded Barmoš.
