New stadium will be built on this site

A modern stadium with 30,000 seats will be built on the site of the historic arena, making it the second largest sports facility in Romania after Arena Națională in Bucharest. The new construction will meet the highest standards of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), but will not be fully roofed and will not have an athletics track.

The stadium project involves a built-up area of 28,800 square metres and the total investment cost is approximately 140 million euros. The main funding comes from the state budget, with the Timiș County Council contributing an additional 22.4 million lei. The construction of the new stadium is expected to take 26 months.

Final farewell to Dan Păltinișanu

Dan Păltinișanu is not only a stadium to the people of Timișoara, but also a symbol of the city's sporting pride. Over the years, it has hosted many unforgettable matches, including clashes with European giants such as Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Celtic Glasgow and West Ham United.

On February 16, an official farewell event was organised for the stadium, during which exhibition matches were played by the Poli Old Boys teams (players born in 1990 and 2000), Politehnica Timișoara and Politehnica Femina. The event was accompanied by workshops on how to make flags and pennants, a presentation of historical recordings and a special choreography prepared by the Druckeria fan group. In the evening, a concert by the band Cargo took place.

Demolition is already underway

Dan Păltinișanu is making quick progress with the demolition. The construction company has already removed the concrete from grandstand II and part of grandstand I. The machines have excavated a large amount of earth, of which around 250 cubic metres will be reused on other construction sites in the Timișoara area.
