Is the stadium a safety risk?
The municipal stadium operator MVGM announced that the structure has been inspected and there is no threat to the stability of the venue. The area beneath the rear section of the stand has been temporarily secured, and further inspections of the joints are currently underway. If necessary, they will be filled with flexible adhesive. A construction company has already been commissioned to carry out the necessary repairs.
Martin Geisthardt, CFO of 1. FC Magdeburg, emphasized that the MDCC-Arena is stable and safe, and fan jumping is actually encouraged to create the right atmosphere. He added that the damage is typical wear and tear that can occur, but the most important thing is that no one was injured. A few years ago, due to stability concerns, jumping was banned in the stadium. After the reconstruction of the north stand into a standing terrace and reinforcement of the structure with steel beams, the ban was lifted in 2019.
