The new Kop Stand at STŌK Cae Ras has been designed with the future in mind, with the possibility of expansion once the appropriate building permits have been obtained. A key element of the design is the external brick facade, which pays homage to Wrexham's nickname Terracottapolis. The use of Ruabon-style brick draws on local traditions, creating an aesthetic coherence with the surroundings.

In addition, the brick façade has been enhanced with a contemporary interpretation of Flemish bond, giving it a unique character. Two dragons from the club's coat of arms have been incorporated into the facade, symbolising the club's pride and identity. The new grandstand includes secure standing areas, hospitality areas and accessible seating. It has also been equipped with modern facilities for players and referees, including a tunnel for players, through which fans will be able to greet the team as they take to the pitch.

The project also includes the creation of a public square behind the stand, which will act as a space for fans on match days and a community gathering place outside. The square will feature a Gresford Colliery wheel, commemorating the victims of the 1934 mining disaster.

Contribution to town

Michael Williamson, Chief Executive of Wrexham AFC, highlights the importance of the new stand in the history of Racecourse Ground. The distinctive design of the new Kop Stand embodies the history and heritage of Wrexham - rooted in the local community creating a timeless, authentic piece of civic architecture that complements other landmarks. It will provide an iconic landmark standing at the gateway to the city giving it a true sense of place he said.

Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of Wrexham County Council, added: I would like to thank the football club for working in true partnership on this. The incredible things happening at the club are continuing to propel Wrexham onto a global stage, and football is bringing communities together, boosting local pride and helping to attract visitors and investment. So it’s very exciting to see the club developing these proposals for the new Kop, and they will hopefully pave the way for more regular international football in Wrexham.

The new stand will be fully UEFA Category 4 compliant, allowing STŌK Cae Ras Stadium to host the 2026 UEFA European U-19 Championship finals and other international sporting events.
