The first step has been taken

At this stage, the concept is just a preliminary sketch, but it is crucial for moving forward through all necessary procedures—including the consultation process, expression of interest, final design, and construction of the new Como stadium.

The new stadium will retain only its existing facade, while the rest of the structure will be completely rebuilt. There is hope that construction can proceed while league matches continue, though confirmation of this will come with the final design. The venue is set to accommodate 15,000 spectators, but due to the complexity of the investment and the stadium’s location in a key area of the city—also undergoing major redevelopment, including the creation of a new pedestrian zone—the cost remains uncertain.

Como aims for continuous progress

Mayor Alessandro Rapinese expressed great enthusiasm, highlighting that the first achievement was ensuring the current Stadio Sinigaglia met Serie A standards. He emphasized that the venue will remain functional in the coming years, with ongoing work to increase capacity to the required levels. However, he insisted that Como must keep progressing with the new stadium project. Rapinese voiced his confidence in Como 1907’s owners, describing them as serious, reliable, and committed partners. He also noted that the city is actively supporting the project, hiring nine new specialists to prepare for the execution of such a large-scale investment.

The presented concept is just a visualization, but as Como 1907 president Mirwan Suwarso stated, it will serve as the basis for a lightweight architectural design that blends with the area’s rationalist architectural heritage. If everything proceeds according to plan—including public consultations—the new stadium should be ready by 2028.

A new stadium by 2028?

Como 1907, in collaboration with the Como City Council and the architectural firm Populous, has officially taken the first steps toward modernizing Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. The first phase involves preparing and approving the Feasibility Assessment Document for Alternative Design Solutions (DOCFAP). The feasibility study and approval process are expected to be completed by May 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2027, with the second phase concluding in August 2028.

Both Como 1907 and city officials have pledged a transparent and open process, considering input from fans and residents at every stage of the project. The renderings presented at the press conference are purely conceptual and may not reflect the final design, which will be unveiled after the completion of the initial development phase.
