A modern stadium as a symbol of football in Zagreb
Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028 or early 2029. The new Dinamo stadium will have a capacity of 35,000 seats and meet the highest standards set by UEFA and FIFA. The total cost of the project will reach 175 million €, with the funding shared between the government and the city authorities. The land will remain the property of the city, which will grant the building rights without compensation. Ownership of the stadium will also be equally divided between the city and the state. Maintenance and future investment costs will be covered by a private manager, selected through a public tender.
This is a long-awaited project, supported by both the government and the city of Zagreb. Stadiums are symbols of major cities. We have invested two billion euros in the reconstruction of Zagreb after the earthquake. Stadion Maksimir is part of this reconstruction, and when viewed in this broader context, this investment is completely justified. We want this project to send a strong architectural message about the importance of football for Zagreb, Dinamo, and Croatia
– said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

What will the tender cover?
A global competition will soon be announced, inviting top architects from around the world to participate. The urban and architectural competition will cover a large area of 32 hectares, stretching across the entire complex, with a narrower part covering 15 hectares. The broader project will include sports facilities in the north-western part, a pool, recreational areas in the south-western part, and a garage with 1,500 parking spaces. The narrower section will focus on the stadium, auxiliary pitches, and an underground garage with 800 parking spaces.

Waiting for the completion of another project
The redevelopment of Stadion Maksimir will begin after the completion of work at the Stadion Kranjčevićeva, which is expected to be finished by September 2026. During the reconstruction of Maksimir, Dinamo will play its home matches at Kranjčevićeva. The renovation of the NK Zagreb and NK Lokomotiva stadiums will include increasing the seating capacity from the current 5,350 to 11,163, with all stands being covered.
