A commercial center to rise in El Campín’s place?
According to information from Bogotá authorities, cited by Colombian media, El Campín will not be gradually renovated on its existing structure, as initially planned in Colombia’s capital, but will be completely demolished. At the same time, it was reported that on the site currently occupied by the stadium, a commercial center will be built, which will also house the Bogotá Philharmonic and a Gatorade high-performance center.
According to preliminary estimates, the number of people attending events held at this complex is expected to increase from four million to a range of eight to ten million. This project aims to become one of the most important infrastructure investments in Bogotá and all of Colombia.
Where will the new stadium be built?
The new El Campín is planned to be built nearby. According to Bogotá officials, the new stadium will be located on the land where El Campincito currently stands, to the northeast of the old stadium. Currently, amateur football tournaments and other sporting events take place there. It was also emphasized that El Campín Stadium will be the last part to be demolished,
meaning that the biggest sports and cultural events in the capital will continue to be held at its location for several more years.

Interested parties deny the reports
This drastic change in the project, which is still unofficially discussed at this point, has sparked controversy. Opinions about whether El Campín will ultimately be demolished are divided. According to Infobae, this is just a rumor, as the project does not plan anything that would involve total demolition. These reports were also denied by the Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD) and Sencia, who reassured that the project is continuing according to plan.
However, in Colombia, there is a belief that this information is true and will be officially announced after the completion of the current games.
