Gerard Piqué, the majority shareholder of FC Andorra, issued an ultimatum to the Andorran government during a recent press conference, leaving the club’s future hanging in the balance if it does not receive the same level of support as the country’s rugby team.

Highlighting success while criticizing stadium conditions
Piqué made it clear that if the government does not find an immediate solution, the club will have no choice but to make drastic decisions, as the current situation is unsustainable and, in his view, unacceptable. The former FC Barcelona player and owner of Kosmos Holding was visibly frustrated on his 38th birthday. He emphasized that for six years, the club has demonstrated that it is a serious project in which he is willing to invest—both in the team and in the country. In his words, FC Andorra’s journey so far speaks for itself.
Piqué reminded everyone that under his leadership, the club climbed from Primera Catalana to Segunda División. We started with 20 fans, now we have 2,000. Last year, we were unlucky and got relegated to Primera RFEF. Alongside basketball, we are the most important sports project in the country,
he stated, before slamming the pitch conditions at Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella. According to Piqué, playing under such conditions is disgraceful.

Is the government favoring rugby?
The former Spain international also pointed out the investments FC Andorra has made in the stadium since taking it over. He noted that the current agreement governing its use—between the Andorran government, the Andorran Football Federation, the Andorran Rugby Federation, and the VPC Andorra club—expires this summer. The government’s plan is to move FC Andorra to a new stadium set to be built in Encamp.
But for Piqué, this is not enough. He is demanding respect and consideration for the club, making it clear that FC Andorra will not play there. I respect Encamp, I like it a lot, but we have invested nearly €4 million here. I want this message to reach those who need to hear it. We have met with the government many times and understand that rugby holds political importance, but we cannot continue under these conditions,
he stressed.
To close his speech, Piqué called on the Andorran government to take immediate action, declaring that the day FC Andorra says enough is enough
has arrived. He added that from this point on, either discussions will begin to find a solution, or the club will be forced to make its own decisions. With that, he ended the press conference without taking any questions.
