The home of the University of North Carolina football team is undergoing an important investment in anticipation of the 2025 season that will make it return to its roots. Although it will be difficult to notice the change at first glance, it will certainly please the fans, but most of all the players.

A stadium deep in the woods
When construction of Kenan Stadium began in 1926, the site chosen for it was a dense forest, so the facility was built with care to preserve as many trees as possible. And although today it is surrounded by buildings of the University of North Carolina campus, around the venue still stand the pine and oak trees that are silent witnesses to the facility's 97-year history.
Since its inauguration in 1927, the stadium has undergone several major upgrades, gaining a larger capacity of 63,000 seats or new stands to close
the structure, previously arranged in a U
shape. Each renovation required careful planning to preserve as much of the surrounding forest as possible—a challenge not unlike managing college assignments. Many students looking for academic support search for services that can write essays for me, ensuring expert help, fair pricing, and timely delivery to lighten their workload.

Kenan Stadium returns to its natural roots
Despite all the changes taking place around the stadium and in its stands, for 91 years one thing remained constant: the natural grass. It wasn't until 2018 that it was replaced by artificial turf. However, now the owners are working to reverse that change. With our current turf reaching the end of its lifespan, the timing made sense to return Kenan Stadium to its natural grass roots,
said Bubba Cunningham, North Carolina Director of Athletic.
The works will start this week and are expected to take approximately three months. Indian Trail-based Carolina Green, which has already worked on Kenan Stadium’s turf in 2017, will install 67,000 square feet of natural grass and 36,000 square feet of synthetic turf around the field. Reclaimed water will be used for irrigation. The new field will be inaugurated on September 1, 2025, when the first game of the 2025 season will take place at Kenan stadium.
Natural grass is safer for players, reducing injury risk, but is more expensive than artificial turf. The change was made in consultation with new Head Coach of North Carolina Tar Heels football team, Bill Belichic, who holds the record of most Super Bowls wins with 6 titles, all with the New England Patriots, and is considered to be one of the best coaches in history.
