Football stadiums generate huge amounts of waste, so any initiative to reduce it is a step in the right direction. RCD Mallorca, in partnership with PreZero, is proving that football and ecology can go hand in hand.

Pioneering environmental project in Spanish stadiums
Estadi Mallorca Son Moix will become the first LaLiga stadium to be certified as zero waste. The initiative highlights the growing role of sport in sustainability efforts and could inspire other clubs to take similar steps. The certification, set to be awarded at the end of 2025, is the result of the implementation of comprehensive recycling and responsible waste management measures.
The success of the project is based on an agreement between PreZero, a company specialising in waste management, and the club RCD Mallorca. As part of the initiative, the Son Moix stadium will achieve a waste recovery rate of 90%, which will allow it to obtain the prestigious certification awarded by Aenor.
The official presentation of the initiative took place at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), held in Ifema. The event was attended by representatives of the club, LaLiga, the Balearic Government and the company PreZero. The Balearic Government's Director General of Sport, Joan Antoni Ramonell, led a debate entitled RCD Mallorca: A commitment to sustainable development.
In his speech, he highlighted how sport can lead change towards a more responsible and sustainable future.
Green measures at Son Moix stadium
The measures taken at Son Moix Stadium include a number of innovative solutions for the effective segregation and recycling of waste. As highlighted by Pablo Caballero, PreZero's Industrial Business Director, the project has seen the separate collection of waste extended to nine fractions, with more than 50 segregation points distributed throughout the stadium.
However, the success of this project depends not only on the infrastructure, but also on the commitment of the fans. Therefore, the club, together with PreZero, has implemented an educational campaign aimed at fans. Its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of waste segregation and active participation in creating a greener stadium environment.
LaLiga is actively supporting the project, seeing it as an opportunity to introduce standards that can be extended to other stadiums in Spain. David Baixuauli, head of corporate projects and CSR at LaLiga, stressed that the organisation is analysing the effectiveness of the measures implemented at Son Moix so that similar solutions can be applied worldwide in the future.
