The regional government’s wide plan to modernize Estadio de Vallecas does not seem to convince Rayo Vallecano's president. To the surprise and anger of socios, he announced that remaining in Vallecas is "uncertain" and will result in the club's relegation...to the third tier.

Upgrading the stadium is not enough
Toilets that have been uncleaned for months, littered stands and railings full of bird droppings. This is what Estadio de Vallecas looks like on a daily basis. In addition to the neglect, the venue manifests signs of problems in the structure, such as cracks and fissures. Faced with this condition, which is causing concern among fans, the Madrid Community has allocated €2 million for the most urgent repairs.
Work will begin in the summer, but at the same time planning is underway for a broader modernization project. These investments are apparently not convincing to the president of Rayo Vallecano. Although they silenced talk of a move for a time, at Monday's shareholders' meeting Raúl Martín Presa once again argued for the need for a new stadium.
"The stadium will condemn Rayo to falling out of professional soccer”
If Rayo Vallecano continues to play at the Estadio de Vallecas, it will be doomed to fall out of professional football in the near future,
Presa warned, as quoted on X by the account of the opposition socios ADRV Accionistas. In Spain, Primera and Segunda are considered professional leagues, which means that, according to the president, playing in Vallecas will result in a relegation to the semi-professional Primera RFEF, the third level of the competition, within a few years.
We have a very big administrative problem. We have been in discussion with the Community of Madrid for months,
Presa continued. The club portrays staying at the facility as uncertain,
and the president is straightforward: options for a move will have to be sought in the future. According to ADRV Accionistas, his argument is the extraordinary
revenue from VIP seats, the number of which cannot be increased at the small Estadio de Vallecas.
The Rayistas have repeatedly shown their opposition to the move, which led Madrid Community President Isabel Diaz Ayuso to change her stance and put forward plans for reform. Now that the only option for a stadium within Vallecas has fallen through due to the construction of new residential buildings in the location of an old factory, their resistance will be even more pronounced.
