In December, it was revealed that Cherwell District Council will conduct new consultations in 2025 regarding Oxford United’s proposed new stadium after receiving additional environmental information.

Club hopes to avoid delays
The U’s submitted an addendum to their environmental statement, revised application documents, and updated plans. The planning application for the proposed new stadium at The Triangle, south of the Kidlington roundabout, is unlikely to be considered before February or March. When asked about the potential delay caused by the renewed consultations, United’s CEO, Tim Williams, expressed hope that they would not lead to significant setbacks.

Is everything under control?
The lease agreement for Kassam Stadium expires on June 30, 2026, prompting the club to push for construction on The Triangle site to begin as soon as possible. The application for a 16,000-seat stadium was submitted to Cherwell District Council at the end of February last year, while a legally binding lease option agreement was signed with Oxfordshire County Council in May.
Looking ahead to 2025, Williams stated: There are many areas starting to really gain momentum. It comes with a lot of risks, and there’s no doubt we need to make sure we have everything fully under control.
