Real Madrid "co-responsible" for the noise at Santiago Bernabeu

Non-governmental consumer rights organization FACUA called on Tuesday for Madrid authorities to initiate proceedings against Real Madrid. Citing repeated violations of noise regulations during a number of concerts as the reason, the organization recalls that so far the club has not faced any liability for exceeding legal sound standards on several occasions.

So far, 7 companies have received fines for a total of €801,000 after 11 proceedings. FACUA believes that Real Madrid is co-responsible for the violations as it allowed music promoters to organize large concerts at Santiago Bernabéu even though the stadium was unsuitable it.

These accusations reflect the view of the Association of Music Promoters (APM), which protested against the club's placing all the blame on the organizers. The APM argued that it is up to the host to take care of the condition in which it makes the space available for a concert.

FACUA is another organization protesting Los Blancos’ management of its home. In addition to the APM, the Association of Neighbors Affected by the Bernabeu is also on the Bernabeu's enemies list. The organization has led to the suspension of concerts at the stadium and is fighting for the right to silence in the Chamartin district in the courts.

FACUA's complaint increases the pressure on Madrid City Hall to take a more assertive stance toward Real Madrid. It is unlikely to result in immediate action, however, as the city's mayor, Luís Martínez-Almeida, has repeatedly explained that he considers the suspension of the concerts to be a sufficient measure, and has called the club's decision difficult but responsible.
