Selected consortium with years of experience
The construction of a new stadium in Bahía Sur is a project that San Fernando has been waiting for a long time. Last Tuesday, the city council officially awarded the construction contract to a consortium consisting of Vilor Infraestructuras SL and Trafisa Construcción y Medioambiente SA. The total construction cost will be €11 million and the completion period has been set at 16 months.
The decision to start construction was a long time coming. In today's dynamic world, we do not want to wait that long, especially when it comes to online activities. Online casinos and interesting offers such as Ruby Fortune casino review, where you can find free-to-join loyalty programmes and convenient payment methods, are becoming increasingly popular worldwide.
The selection of the contractors was preceded by a complex tender process, which began in July this year. After verification of the documentation, the contract proposal went to a consortium of Vilor and Trafisa. The first company, Vilor Infraestructuras, is based in Valencia and is involved in extensive construction work and infrastructure. Trafisa, on the other hand, operating in Granada, started with forestry and environmental projects and now specialises in the construction and implementation of large public and private projects.
A key investment for the region
At the last session of the city council, a new multi-year spending plan was approved which includes six major investments, including Bahía Sur stadium. Most of the construction costs will be financed by loans. Between 2025 and 2026, the council envisages borrowing €7.6 million, with the remaining funds of €2.8 million to be allocated from the budget as early as the end of 2024.
The new stadium in Bahía Sur will be devoid of an athletics track, allowing it to focus on functionality for football. To compensate for the lack of space for athletics, a new athletics stadium is planned in Camposoto in the Huerta de la Compañía area. Although the first phase of this €3.5 million investment was announced in June 2023, the tender has yet to be awarded. A re-announcement is planned for December this year.
With €11 million, the new Bahía Sur stadium project has become one of the biggest investments made by the city council this term. Although the budget for this project is impressive, it is only surpassed by the investment in the La Magdalena complex, which has been allocated almost €14 million.
Patricia Cavada, mayor of San Fernando, did not hide her enthusiasm over the award of the contract. On her social media, she stressed that the construction of the new stadium is the realisation of a long-standing dream for fans of the Blue and Whites and an important step towards fulfilling the dreams of local residents.
Schedule of works
The city council assumes that the construction work will begin in early 2025 and be completed just before the start of the 2026/27 season, with an assumed completion time of 16 months. However, there is cautious optimism among the local community, given the possible delays due to problems that can arise with projects of this scale.
