Ireland: Wexford FC prepares for major infrastructure investment Wexford FC was one of the major winners of November's announcement of grants from the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF). The club, with its men’s team in the First Division and women’s team in the Premier Division, will receive €2 million for the construction of a new stadium.

Relocation as an opportunity for growth

Ferrycarrig Park is the current home of Wexford FC, but as the site was designated for the M11 motorway extension, the club needs to move closer to Wexford town. The planned route for the M11 motorway extension from Oylegate to Rosslare was set to pass directly through the club’s grounds. However, with the support of Wexford County Council, Wexford FC has secured land behind Min Ryan Park in Killeens, on the outskirts of Wexford town, which will integrate well with the new South East Technological University (SETU) campus.

Although the impressive renderings of the club and stadium offer a glimpse into the future, it would be unrealistic to expect such a development to happen overnight. While waiting for the completion of sports-related investments in the Republic of Ireland, fans often turn their attention to other online activities, such as online gambling. Finding satisfying offers can be time-consuming, but there is a simple solution. You can already check the best casino online and enjoy the game.

First focus on local youth

Phase 1 of the project includes two full-sized, floodlit all-weather pitches with a 2,500 m² clubhouse. The ground floor of the clubhouse will feature multiple changing rooms, physiotherapy rooms, a delegate room, a ticket office, reception area, press room, club shop, and a café. The next phase will consider placing a bar, restaurant, and an event hall on the upper floor, which could host various events and serve as a revenue generator for the club.

The stadium must be the second step. We need to look after the youth clubs and have a center for all the programs we run, said Wexford FC CEO Tony Doyle in an interview with Irish Independent. The aim is to provide top-quality sporting facilities for clubs and organizations across the community. This isn't just about Wexford FC. There are 56 clubs, including women's teams, in the junior league. All of them will have access. We have 11 schools signed up for the license; we have our own team with the Down team; our wheelchair football team... Doyle continued.

What are the plans for the stadium?

Wexford FC hopes to open the clubhouse and two full-sized, floodlit all-weather pitches with the option of a temporary stand for 1,500 spectators by the spring of 2027. As for the 6,000-seat stadium, the timelines are somewhat less clear. At a recent Wexford County Council meeting, it was revealed that we won’t see any ground-breaking on the Oylegate-Rosslare motorway route before 2027. The club will be ready to move forward once the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the existing Ferrycarrig pitches is approved. The new stadium will be a modular construction built to UEFA standards.
