Australia: Beautiful history of The Gabba coming to an end? Cricket Australia is preparing to take its most decisive step yet towards scrapping the Gabba as a Test venue, focusing on intensifying its bid for a new stadium in Victoria Park.

Cricket Australia and Brisbane Lions submit proposal for new venue

According to a report from the Courier Mail, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley confirmed that the proposal includes playing the final cricket match during the 2032 Olympic Games at the Gabba before the team moves to the new venue. Hockley, the outgoing CEO of Cricket Australia, said that while the Gabba has played a key role in Queensland’s cricket history, it is also clear that the stadium’s usefulness is coming to an end.

As a result, cricket and Brisbane Lions authorities are said to have submitted their proposal to the Queensland government as part of its 100-day Olympic venue review. Hockley said the Brisbane Olympics present a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a world-class stadium that will bring strong benefits for Queensland’s future, providing cricket and football fans with the facilities they deserve.

While waiting for the major sports events, such as the Olympic Games in Australia, fans often turn their attention to other online activities, such as gambling games. Finding satisfying offers can be time-consuming, but there is a simple solution. You can now check out the online roulette offers and enjoy free real-money games.

Cricket slowly leaving the gabba

The Gabba's status in the Test cricket calendar already seemed uncertain when it was announced earlier this year that it would not host the series opener against India, which would instead take place at Optus Stadium in Perth. Australia’s Test summer traditionally began at the Gabba, but this has not been the case since the 2021/22 Ashes series. The Gabba will host its first-ever day/night Ashes Test in December next year, but Cricket Australia has not included it in its schedule for home Tests beyond that series.

It would be amazing to host the Olympic cricket finals at the Gabba and then move straight into a brilliant new stadium where fans can enjoy international and domestic cricket in comfort for the next 50 years or more, Hockley added. Marnus Labuschagne said in August that it would be a sad day if the Gabba loses its status as a Test cricket venue. Every time we (Australia) don’t get to play at the Gabba it’s disappointing for us as a playing group because we love the wicket at the Gabba. We love playing in Brisbane, we’ve got a really good record in Brisbane, so that (no Tests at the Gabba) is really not ideal.
