2030 WC: Spanish Federation thinks leaving out Nou Mestalla is Once again, the new RFEF president Rafael Louzán insists on his "commitment" to including Valencia in the list of 2030 World Cup venues. He assures that he doesn’t forget about Vigo as well, but gives only the reasons to host the tournament at Nou Mestalla.

An important city with the most modern stadium

To leave it out does not seem to me like the most logical thing is the opinion on Valencia's bid for the 2030 World Cup of Rafael Louzán, president of the Spanish federation (RFEF). It deserves it, both it [Valencia - editor’s note] and Vigo, which is also fighting there, he assured at the FC Futures tournament, after promising a few days ago at Onda Cero that he would go the way as far as necessary for both cities to host the World Cup. But as it was happening in recent weeks, despite naming the Galician city next to Valencia, Louzán only gave arguments to defend the bid of Valencia.

However, this time, apart from underlining the importance of this city for Spain, Louzán gives another reason: the (re)start of the works of the Nou Mestalla, scheduled for January 10. It's going to be a totally new stadium, probably the newest we're going to have for that World Cup, he recalled, also giving as an argument the capacity of 70,000 seats, which will turn Nou Mestalla into one of the biggest fields in Spain.

The president assures that bringing the World Cup to Valencia is still his commitment, but does not clarify how he wants to achieve it. One possibility would be to reach an agreement with Morocco, Portugal and FIFA to increase the number of venues, and the other to replace some of the current ones, such as A Coruña or Málaga, which still have no funding announced and operate on preliminary projects.
