"A symbol of innovation, a monument"

The program Megastructures: the Bernabéu of the 21st century unveils the secrets of this transformation through the words of Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who emphasizes that the renovated stadium is a symbol of innovation, a monument. The documentary also features several experts involved in the project. Among the highlighted challenges are overcoming obstacles such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the historic snowstorm Filomena in 2021.

The endless skybar saga

According to El Confidencial, the company originally contracted to manage the stadium’s skybar, Anastasia Gourmet, is demanding €16.5 million in compensation for not being able to utilize the space. Specifically, this concerns a 700 m² VIP super lounge located at the top of Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, intended to house an exclusive restaurant and nightclub with panoramic views of Madrid.

The space was initially set to open on April 21 during the Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona match, but delays postponed its unveiling. Another attempt was made to launch it during the final match of the 2023/24 season against Real Betis, but again it was delayed. The next deadline was the opening home game of the 2024/25 season, but after a two-month break, the VIP area remains incomplete.

Real Madrid decided to reopen the project to new investors, entrusting it to the García-Delgado de Jerez business group in late August. Aida Marina Argüelles was appointed as general manager. However, a month and a half after their involvement, little progress has been made. The Andalusian investors have not met all the financial obligations required to complete the skybar, and the club's patience is wearing thin.

Who will win the legal battle?

Recent reports indicate that since mid-September, the company holding the rights to operate the skybar has had limited access to the area, only being allowed to perform certain maintenance tasks. A November 23 launch was scheduled but is now officially canceled. The restricted access has led to multimillion-euro losses, prompting Anastasia Gourmet to sue Real Madrid for €16.5 million. Of this amount, €7 million is owed to suppliers such as Schweppes, Heineken, and contractors like Entredecora, Istman, and Ancodarq.

Real Madrid has also taken legal action, citing breach of contract. According to the lawsuit revealed by El Confidencial, the club declared the lease terminated and demanded the voluntary and cost-free handover of the premises without further formalities, even without prior notice or adherence to the deadline stipulated in the agreement.
