Netherlands: NAC Breda with ambitious stadium plans When NAC Breda were in crisis in 2003 the local government helped the club by buying the seven-year-old Rat Verlegh Stadion from the club. It was intended that the club would get its facility back once its finances recovered, but it is still managed by the municipality of Breda. NAC authorities, however, want a change to the current situation.

NAC wants to buy back the stadium after 21 years

The Yellow Army has re-entered the Eredivisie after five seasons at its back, and seems determined to win a permanent place at the top level. An 11th place after 13 games is cause for optimism, and the club wants to stabilize the situation financially as well.

As reported by Voetbal International, NAC Breda is in talks to buy and modernize Rat Verlegh Stadion. However, they are not proceeding at the pace that club officials would like. Pass holders have been told that funds have been secured for December, but negotiations with the local government are still underway.

More seats = more revenue

The goal is to modernize the stadium and expand the single-level Eretribune, or south-east Stand of Honor, to provide the club with more revenue, as it is difficult to increase profits at the current capacity of 19,000 seats. The high rent is another motivation for the club to buy back the facility.

According to BN DeStem, most local political forces support the purchase, but differ on the details and conditions. The key to the operation's success will be working out a compromise that satisfies both the club and most of the city's factions. The talks will likely culminate in December.
