Preparations underway for project amendments
In the coming days, both clubs will need to submit a formal application to access the documents, allowing them to review all details processed by the Tax Office before deciding on their next steps. Work would then begin on updating the technical and economic feasibility study, essential for defining timelines, methods, and costs for constructing a new stadium and renovating San Siro, which would preserve the structure only from the second level downward. This update, based on a document prepared two years ago, is expected to take about four months.
The new stadium, to be built on the site of the former Palazzetto dello Sport, would have an estimated capacity of 70,000 seats. Once the investment is defined, the teams can submit a binding purchase offer with the goal of reaching an agreement by next summer, according to Mayor Beppe Sala’s hopes. It’s clear this is the last chance,
Sala stated following the announcement. If the teams confirm their interest in purchasing the stadium and surrounding area, we aim to close everything before next summer.
Meanwhile, the clubs are analyzing every aspect; for instance, AC Milan representatives met with officials from Real Madrid to discuss the model of the renovated Bernabeu.
Investment benefiting all of Milan
The mayor emphasized that the sale of Meazza will secure funding for investments in public housing and initiatives to improve the quality of the area. He also explained that resuming the process started in 2019 (and paused in 2023) instead of closing and reopening it brings both time and financial benefits, considering it includes public debate and City Council recommendations.
San Donato officials concerned about the project’s future
The San Donato council remains concerned by AC Milan’s multiple stadium projects and is preparing a letter on the matter. As reported by Calciomercato.com, Massimiliano Mistretta, San Donato’s Public Works Councilor, responded to the latest San Siro news and its impact on San Donato’s plans. We’re continuing the technical and administrative process seriously and correctly, now reaching the Vas phase—Strategic Environmental Assessment,
he said.
San Donato Mayor Francesco Squeri held a phone conversation with AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni in recent days, confirming that building the stadium in San Donato remains a priority, and that the parties will meet in person soon. According to Calcio e Finanza, San Donato offices are preparing a letter demanding compensation, in which they’ll request Milan reimburse the council’s expenses if the club decides to abandon the project.
