Two options are on the table: expanding St James' Park or constructing a new, state-of-the-art stadium. Speaking at the We Are United event, club COO Brad Miller said, "Regarding the next steps, we're approaching the end of another stage, the briefing stage. St James' presents many risks but also many opportunities. We need to take the time to delve into these and ensure we make the right decisions."

While the iconic location and atmosphere of St James' Park make it a cherished choice for both local fans and the board, a new stadium could offer significantly higher capacity and revenue potential. For the Magpies, aiming for footballing success on a global scale, this might be the optimal path. An alternative site under consideration is nearby Leazes Park, although its protected status could pose challenges for building a new arena from scratch. Regardless of the location, constructing a new stadium would require a substantial financial commitment. Miller emphasized the need to strike a balance between long-term competitiveness and the financial constraints imposed by the Premier League's profit and sustainability regulations.

Option A, B, or C?

Earlier this year, conceptual designer and 3D animator Damián Bosio presented three proposals for expanding St James' Park. Option A involves extending Gallowgate End and Gallowgate West Corner to match the height of the Milburn and Leazes stands. Option B proposes raising and shifting the pitch northwest to create room for expanding the East Stand and Gallowgate Stand to a height similar to Milburn and Leazes. However, this plan faces obstacles due to properties on Leazes Terrace and the right to light easement, though advancements in technology might allow light to pass through an extended East Stand. Option C involves building a completely new stadium in Leazes Park, as previously mentioned.

A survey conducted by the Shields Gazette found that 68% of respondents believe Newcastle United should build an entirely new stadium, while 28% think the club should remain at St James' Park no matter what. While the majority lean toward a new venue, over a quarter still support staying at the historic site, underscoring the tough decision Newcastle United’s leadership faces—a once-in-a-generation move or redevelopment.
