Football have to wait
The province of Valencia is struggling to cope with the severe consequences of DANA, which has brought torrential rain and catastrophic flooding. The situation has forced the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to react immediately, cancelling several cup matches as a first step. The RFEF decided to postpone Parla Escuela-Valencia, Pontevedra-Levante and Ejea-Hercules matches, among others.
One of the first matches affected by the weather situation was Parla Escuela's match against Valencia, which was due to take place in Madrid. The new date has been set for Wednesday, 6 November, at 7pm, and the match will take place at Campo Las Américas in Parla.
Subsequent matches, including Pontevedra-Levante at Pasarón, also had to be cancelled. The Levante team, trying to reach the airport for a scheduled flight to Santiago de Compostela, were stuck due to road closures and impaired communications within Valencia. As a result, this meeting has also been postponed and will take place next Thursday, after obtaining the relevant approvals from the federation and local authorities.
Another problem affected the Hercules team, who were due to play a match against Ejea in Zaragoza. Unfortunately, disastrous road conditions made it impossible to transport the team to the venue, forcing the club to cancel the game. Another date will be set.
Getafe and Valencia CF are calling for further cancellations
The situation is getting worse with each passing day. Getafe, due to play a match against the Manises team at Coliseum, have made an official request for the match to be postponed. The Valencia team's coach, Santi Martín, lives in the municipality of Torrent, which remains cut off from the rest of the region. Faced with such dramatic circumstances, the Getafe club expressed the position that playing the match in such conditions is inappropriate
and the priority should be to support those affected and restore normality in the affected area.
Valencia CF also want Saturday's match at Mestalla against Real Madrid postponed. Now, a formal request has already been made, after analysing the situation, taking into account the tragic losses and traffic difficulties. Previously, in February this year, the club had already asked for the match against Granada to be cancelled out of respect for the victims of the Campanar fire. Today's events, however, surpass previous dramas - DANA has brought massive destruction and dozens of deaths.

With numerous matches postponed, the fixture calendar is also becoming an issue. Both Valencia and the other teams involved in the King's Cup will have to fit the new dates into a busy schedule, which includes league and European games. The first free dates are not due until January.
Real Madrid, among others, has expressed its full support for those affected and the families of the victims. The club issued an official statement in which the president and board of directors expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and full solidarity with those affected.
The footballers paid tribute to the victims with a minute's silence before morning training.
