Serious violation
The disciplinary body of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) issued a warning of the potential closure of RCDE Stadium and imposed a fine of €3,000 on Espanyol for the plastic cup thrown from the stands. If another incident occurs, the stadium will be closed to fans. The Committee praised the swift identification of the person responsible for the incident.
Given that there were no harmful consequences, and the culprit was almost immediately located, there was no need for harsher measures. Moreover, the person responsible was found and apologized to both the club and the referee. The Committee applied Article 107, Section 2, concerning serious disturbances, which states: This will be considered a serious violation and will be punished with a fine of up to €3,000 and a warning of closure.
Espanyol now has the option to appeal this decision.
Quintero noted the incident in his match report, emphasizing that he was not injured and that the fan was immediately identified and reported to the appropriate authorities. The culprit, speaking with Catalunya Ràdio, expressed regret for his actions, which he described as unforgivable. He is not an Espanyol fan and was visiting the Catalan team's stadium for the first time this season.
