Mahou-San Miguel and Real Madrid tighten ties
Wednesday is the first day of Plaza Mahou, the space inside the new Santiago Bernabeu where fans and visitors to Los Blancos’ temple can have a beer produced just a few meters from the bar. It will be open from 12:00 to 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday and from 12:00 to 00:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Plaza Mahou combines a bar and microbrewery in a space of 700 m2 with a production capacity of 30,000 liters per year, according to Mahou-San Miguel’s press release. The tables in the Plaza Mahou have views on the pitch, but those who attend will not only be able to contemplate the stadium or even a game while drinking a beer, but also learn about how their beverage is made. The company expects to welcome 400,000 visitors each year.
Mahou-San Miguel and Real Madrid strengthen their business relationship that dates back to the 1940s, when the company took over the stadium's bar. Likewise, Bernabéu becomes the first venue in the Iberian Peninsula to have its own brewery, but not in Europe, as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also has its own brewery, which produces the 23,000 pints that are sold on average every matchday.
