New phase for El Arcángel
El Arcángel, since its construction more than three decades ago, has struggled due to unfinished infrastructure, particularly the eastern and southern facades, which have remained exposed. Various attempts have been made over the years to complete these works, but only now, thanks to the collaboration of the City Council and the Córdoba CF club, does a solution appear to be close at hand. The mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido, has stressed that the city has unfinished business
with the stadium and intends to resolve it in the coming years.
The redevelopment is still at least a few months away from starting, so there will be a bit of a wait at this point. Many fans are looking for alternative activity at their fingertips so they don't have to wait. When looking for online casinos, fans often choose novoscasinos.com.pt which offers the best range of online games and easy payment methods for Portuguese people.
During the debate on the state of the city, Bellido explained that the planned work on El Arcángel is part of a wider process to upgrade the stadium. A formula has been developed that allows for the temporary closure of the facades, while leaving open the possibility of further improvements in the future. The mayor stressed that the city does not want to undertake investments that could limit the development of the stadium, and the work planned for 2025 will aim to aesthetically match the new facades with the rest of the venue.
Bellido also drew attention to the presence of an office building in the stadium complex that has not been used for many years and is poorly designed. There are plans to reuse it, and the mayor mentioned that he has received information about interest in the building from private investors.
Cooperation with Córdoba CF on many levels
Córdoba CF, the football club that is the main user of the stadium, is actively involved in the process of upgrading El Arcángel. The club is taking steps to bring the stadium into line with LaLiga and UEFA requirements, which is particularly important following its return to professional football.
Córdoba CF's general manager, Antonio Fernández Monterrubio, highlighted that one of the biggest challenges was the upgrade of the stadium's lighting, which will continue in the coming years. Replacing the system with LED lighting and upgrading the irrigation system are just some of the measures needed to meet the highest standards.
When asked about the progress of the work at El Arcángel, Monterrubio explained that the upgrades include the lighting, the turf, the substitutes' benches and the location of the cameras, among other things, which involved the loss of several seats in the stands. The changes also include the VIP and press areas, which in practice meant an almost comprehensive redevelopment. However, he pointed out that there is currently no final cost estimate for these works.
Monterrubio added that the modernisation of the stadium had been accelerated due to the organisation of the Nations League match between Spain and Serbia, which took place on October 15, 2024. This event necessitated intensive work to bring the venue up to international requirements, including changes to the lighting, VIP and press areas.
We commissioned the stadium, which was not an easy task. I would like to thank all the club's staff for their hard work in adapting the stadium to both LaLiga and UEFA regulations, which overlap in some cases and differ in others
Monterrubio explained, adding that the club is doing everything to be ready for the 15th round of matches.
Miguel Ángel Torrico, president of the Municipal Planning Board, confirmed that the project to close the facades has been approved, with €850,000 set aside in the 2025 budget. According to the City Council, the project will be developed by the Projects Department of the Municipal Urban Planning Department.
