Construction of the new Skra Warsaw stadium began in early January. According to the city's deputy mayor, the start of this long-awaited project is a "historic day" for the community.

The end of an era
The old RKS Skra stadium was built between 1948 and 1953 during the post-war reconstruction of Warsaw, standing almost on the same site as the original venue, which was built in 1934. At that time, it was home to Warszawianka. After the war, the facility was taken over by Skra Warsaw, which lost its rights to the stadium in 2015. By then, the stadium was already in need of a thorough renovation, but all attempts to carry out repairs had failed.
In place of the old arena, a new Skra Warsaw stadium will be built with a capacity of 25,000 seats, and its stands will be covered. The stadium will have a track and field design and will meet IAAF Category II standards, allowing it to host championship-level athletics events. As part of the investment, a multifunctional sports hall will also be built, primarily for volleyball and basketball players and fans. The hall will be able to host Polish championships in both sports.

The changing face of sports engagement
While many sports fans in Warsaw eagerly await the completion of the new Skra Warsaw stadium, some have shifted their attention to online platforms to engage with their favourite sports in the meantime. With the rise of digital access to sports content, a growing number of fans are turning to online activities such as live streaming and virtual sports betting. This shift has been especially noticeable in the realm of some sports where online betting offers a way for fans to stay engaged with global events.
For those looking to enhance their online sports experience, free bets from some of the best online bookmakers have become an attractive option. These promotions provide an opportunity for fans to place extra bets on major international sports events. It’s a way for supporters to maintain their connection to the sports world, even as they anticipate the new Skra Warsaw stadium’s reopening in 2025.

The final stretch
The first stage of the facility’s modernization is slowly coming to an end. Construction work at Skra Warsaw is progressing according to schedule. The reinforced concrete work on the sports facility's support building is nearly complete, with the ceiling already poured and parapet walls under construction. Thermal and waterproof insulation is also being installed. The training athletics stadium is also taking shape, with the reinforced concrete track in place, drainage and irrigation systems installed, and subbase layers prepared. Work on preparing the vegetative layer for the throwing field and the rugby pitch for grass seeding is nearly finished.
This stage of the complex's revitalization is being overseen by a consortium of Tamex Obiekty Sportowe and Gardenia Sport. Construction work is expected to be completed by December 2024. If everything goes according to plan, the official opening of this part of the project will take place in spring 2025.

Next stage coming soon
The modern sports hall and athletics stadium will be built in the second stage of the Wawelska Center modernization. The city authorities announced the results of a competition for the architectural and construction concept of both facilities. The winning design came from Bujnowski Architekci and ATJ Architekci. The jury highlighted the timeless architectural solutions that also harmonize with the park surroundings.
