Planned works and upgrades for Ciudad de La Plata

Ciudad de La Plata, is once again hitting the headlines in the media. Not only because, the Estudiantes club is considering playing its home matches there, but also because of upcoming renovations. According to the plans, the stadium is to undergo major upgrades that could even result in the return of the national team to the arena, as was the case during the 2011 Copa América.

Fans are certainly looking forward to the development of Unique Stadium investment, with the last one taking place 13 years ago. Since then, football in Argentina has become increasingly mainstream thanks in part to Leo Messi, but that's not the only thing. Betting has become a popular pastime worldwide, driven by enticing promotions from bookmakers like the Betano UK sign up offer, which gives new UK players an exceptional welcome bonuses with free bets, fair minimum odds, and a wide range of sports to bet on.

As part of the stadium upgrade works, which will take around three months, the pitch surface will be resurfaced and the roof repaired. As highlighted by stadium officials, the work on the roofing will be carried out in cooperation with Italian specialists, and materials for the repair may be imported from abroad. These measures are aimed at restoring the stadium to its former glory.

Return of Albicelestes to Estadio Unico?

One of the main topics related to the modernisation of the stadium is the possibility of the Argentine national team returning to Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. The stadium's director, Cristian Cardozo, and the director of infrastructure, Paulo Vigliano, in an interview on 221 Radio, assured that the stadium will still be a football venue. We want the Argentine national team to play in La Plata. We are in talks with the CONMEBOL authorities and the AFA (Argentine Football Association). It is one of the best stadiums in the country, highly regarded internationally as well. - they stressed.

Taking such a step would certainly raise the profile of the stadium, especially in the context of recent successful sporting events such as the U-20 World Cup, a tournament that was a great organisational success, with the Uruguayans winning the league title in this very arena.

Estudiantes or Boca in Ciudad de La Plata?

Due to the planned upgrades to UNO Stadium, where Estudiantes play their matches, there has been an option for the club to consider moving some matches to Ciudad de La Plata. Although talks between the club and the stadium management have yet to produce final decisions, it is hoped that the venue could temporarily serve as a home arena for Estudiantes.

Stadium representatives stressed that there have been no direct talks with the club on the matter as yet, but that they are open to cooperation. We have never spoken to Estudiantes about the possibility of using the facility. We have a meeting with the club today because they are part of the foundation that manages the stadium, Cardozo and Vigliano explained at the end of September.

The same is being written about in the context of Boca Juniors. There, work is underway on the stadium that was promised by the club's then president, Juan Roman Riquelme. Among the recent renovations are the refurbishment of the car park, the tunnel to the pitch and the fan entrances to the stadium. However, according to 0221.com.ar, in 2025 La Bombonera will have to be closed for further upgrades. The most serious candidate for a replacement stadium is also Estadio Unico. The future will tell whether Estudiantes and Boca will actually play in La Plata.
