Over a year of delay

The redevelopment of José Zorrilla stadium and the expansion of Real Valladolid’s sports complex will have to wait, despite Mayor Jesús Julio Carnero assuring at the end of July that the project was progressing internally and would be announced after the holidays, stating that they had been working on it for 14 months. For those who do not enjoy the waiting, the UK betting website Fruity King offers an instant option to enjoy the biggest games, the best bonuses, and the highest possible level of security.

The spokesperson for the PSOE Municipal Group, Pedro Herrero, criticized the mayor on the platform X, accusing him of not yet having initiated any administrative procedures regarding the renovation of the stadium and the Real Valladolid sports complex. He did so through a series of posts explaining that it has been a year and four months since Carnero’s promise of stadium redevelopment. He pointed out that the previous administration had completed the necessary administrative work, but the current one decided not to sign the vital document for the entire community. He also noted that the process now has to be restarted by the key party, which is the club. Under the previous administration, Real Valladolid took this step in January 2022, but has yet to do so under the current one.

Carnero and Ronaldo have left the city and fans without the necessary works, when all that was needed was to sign an agreement that was already finalized between the City Council and the club. By now, the work would have been underway for over a year, Herrero concluded.

Will they start in 2025?

At the moment, even the renovation of the stadium, which was supposed to start with the closure of the south stand, does not seem to have a set date. The Urban Planning Department has responded that in relation to the request for administrative documentation regarding the public concession or legal instrument for the redevelopment of José Zorrilla stadium and the construction of Real Valladolid’s sports city, we inform you that no proceedings have been initiated.

In early August, Real Valladolid spokesperson Jorge Santiago stated that the club is still waiting for the City Council to announce a tender for a new contract covering the stadium’s redevelopment, including the perimeter fence. The City Council wants to begin construction of the south fence in 2025. According to the mayor, the plan is to start in 2025, but we don’t know the exact date, he said at the time. He also informed that the City Council wants to participate in financing the stadium's renovation, which involves a number of legal issues. It’s for this reason that the release of the document seems to be progressing more slowly than anyone would like.

Cosmetic changes

In the summer, work began to change the appearance of the stadium’s facade. Water pressure has already been used to thoroughly clean the surface before painting. Then, the upper beams supporting the west and east stands were painted black. In addition to black, the plan is to use various shades of purple, the representative color of both the club and the city. Vinyls, polycarbonates, and fabric will also be added to give the exterior of Zorrilla a different look. The budget for the work, which is expected to be completed by the end of September, is €990,000, entirely funded by the CVC fund.
