Mexico: Renovation of Estadio Azteca underway. What does facility look like now? Estadio Azteca is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. The goal is clear— to provide top-level football experiences. The only stadium in the world that has hosted three World Cup tournaments is writing a new chapter in its rich history.

Huge changes

This modernization goes beyond a simple renovation. It is a reinvention aimed at preserving the stadium’s essence while adapting it to the most demanding standards of modern football. In several photos that have become popular on social media, it can be seen that the Coloso de Santa Úrsula currently has no grass, and several sections of the stands have been completely demolished. At the stands level, another change is the removal of commercial logos and the Club América crest. They will likely be completely removed for the 2026 World Cup, as FIFA regulations prohibit displaying brands outside designated areas.

Construction of Estadio Azteca

Although the renovation process is already underway, there are still no official visualizations of what Estadio Azteca will look like upon completion. The investment is estimated to be close to 308 million pesos, and the stadium is expected to be ready for use by the end of 2025.
