What does the project include?
State executive councilor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship, Mohd Najwan Halimi, stated that the process is being carried out in an organized manner, taking into account all factors to minimize inconvenience for local residents, including safety and dust issues. Demolition work started some time ago, but we recently took on the major task of dismantling the stadium's roof structure,
he said. The Kota Anggerik state assembly member added that construction on the new complex will take place alongside the demolition.
The dismantling of Shah Alam Stadium began in early July and is part of the larger project to build the new Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA). The project’s managing director, Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz, explained that the first phase includes both the demolition of Shah Alam Stadium and the construction of KSSA, with completion slated for December 2026. The second phase, planned for January 2027, will see the construction of a covered stadium, sports facilities for youth, and recreational areas. The final phase, set between January 2028 and December 2029, will include the development of an integrated transport terminal, a shopping mall, and a hotel.

The end of an era
Shah Alam Stadium has been home to Selangor FC, currently competing in the Malaysian Super League. Opened in 1994, the stadium featured massive six-tiered, semi-enclosed stands. Before the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil was built, it was the largest stadium in Malaysia. Its structure, with the world’s longest free-standing arch, was an architectural icon for years.
We discussed the progress of the demolition of this stadium in a recent video on our YouTube channel. In addition to it, we have been to a dozen more locations where stadiums are currently under construction.
