Collaboration with authorities
The Red Devils have teamed up with Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to explore how a world-class stadium can serve as a catalyst for creating a thriving residential, sports, recreational, business, and entertainment hub around Trafford Wharfside. An independent team has been appointed to oversee the project and ensure that the club’s stadium plans align with Trafford’s main development blueprint for the Wharfside area and GMCA’s growth strategy. The findings will be included in the recommendations of a task force led by Lord Coe.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said, Greater Manchester has a strong claim to being the greatest football city-region in the world. Few places can match our heritage and the global impact of our clubs and culture. The future of Old Trafford is the next chapter in this story, and now we have the chance to make sure it’s written the right way.

Will the investment revive the area?
Manchester United's new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, aims to reach a final decision on his vision for the Wembley of the North
by the end of the year. The new stadium, set to be built on land owned by the club next to Old Trafford, could be completed by 2030. The club has also revealed plans to keep a scaled-down version of the existing stadium, which would serve as a living monument to the club's history and host women's and academy matches.
Councilor Liz Patel, executive member for economy and regeneration at Trafford Council, is confident that the project will contribute to the renovation of the Trafford Wharfside area. She revealed that the plan includes the construction of up to 5,000 new homes, as well as opening up new commercial opportunities and improving transport links between Trafford Wharfside, Salford, and central Manchester.
