Expansion of El Plantío?
Marcelo Figoli, owner of Burgos CF, has opened a new chapter in the club's history by announcing that he has three plans to expand El Plantío. As part of his ambitious project, Figoli intends to increase the venue's capacity to over 20,000 seats. Currently, the stadium holds around 11,300 spectators, which the owner believes is insufficient for a city with as much potential as Burgos. The capacity of our stadium is very small for a city like Burgos and the enthusiasm that is building up among our fans,
Figoli stressed during a meeting with the media.
The expansion of the stadium is not limited to increasing the number of seats. Figoli is also not ruling out the construction of a new stadium as one of the possible alternatives. We are talking about it with the relevant institutions (Burgos City Council and the Castilla y León regional government), we have different projects in this regard, we will see which project is the best and what financial assistance we can count on,
he said.
Figoli stressed that the stadium expansion is not only an investment in infrastructure, but also in the future of the club. I hope the team will reach the final days of the league as protagonists of the promotion places. We must always look to the future, be ambitious,
he pointed out. In order to achieve this goal, the club increased the salary cap to €8 million, a doubling of the budget compared to the previous season. This has made it possible to sign new contracts with key players such as Curro Sánchez, Aitor Córdoba and Anderson Arroyo.
However, despite the ambitious plans, Figoli does not intend to increase the price of passes for the upcoming season, noting that after a 15% increase this season, the club has reached the maximum possible number of pass holders, at 9,300.
Capital challenges and relationship with Yucón group
During the conference, Figoli also expressed his disappointment at the lack of participation by the Yucón Group, the former owner of Burgos CF, in the share capital increase. The group owns around 18% of the club and its decision not to participate in the capital increase was unacceptable to Figoli.
I am not happy about it. As the majority shareholder of the institution, I made an effort to increase my capital in the same proportion and I would like the other shareholders to do the same,
commented Figoli.
You have to aim high
Marcelo Figoli makes no secret of the fact that he dreams of Burgos CF competing in the Primera Division. I would like to reiterate my desire for Burgos to be in the first division sooner rather than later. Of course, I cannot promise that, but as soon as possible I want the city of Burgos and our fans to be able to enjoy the team playing in the first division,
he pointed out.
The club's owner stressed that the squad has been strengthened at various levels, which will allow the team to compete for a place at the top of the second division. The sporting director is working together with the coach to bring in a few more reinforcements. We have done everything possible so that they have the tools to create the best team,
said Figoli.
