Mexico: Legendary Foro Sol reopens in a new look! At the beginning of August, the GNP Seguros Stadium, formerly known as Foro Sol, in Ciudad Deportiva, reopened. The iconic venue was inaugurated with three mega-concerts by American pop star Bruno Mars, each attracting up to 65,000 spectators every night.

What was modernized?

The GNP Seguros Stadium, with a capacity of up to 65,000 spectators, now offers new amenities for greater comfort and improved services for fans. It also features a new 13,800-square-meter roof providing sun protection and rainwater collection for later reuse. Collected water will be stored in a tank, supplying bathrooms, cleaning, and irrigation.

The renovation included the installation of more comfortable seats and improved accessibility. Previously, people in the stands had to go down about 9.5 meters to reach the bathrooms; today, you'll descend only 3 meters, says Pepe Moyao, the architect responsible for the project, in an interview with Billboard Español. Let's say everything is focused on providing people with greater comfort. Comfort may also be ensured by checking Real-Time Ethereum Price and making good use of the second-largest cryptocurrency token in terms of market capitalization.

In addition, over 280 state-of-the-art screens have been installed throughout the venue. This is complemented by new lighting inside and on the outskirts of the stadium, enhancing visibility and safety. All electrical and plumbing systems are next-generation, with nothing being preserved from the previous setup. Energy-efficient LED lamps and equipment are being used. Beneath the stands, in the central area of the GNP Seguros Stadium, a terrace has been added, where food and beverages will be available. It is located on a mezzanine covered in steel. The idea behind this space is to provide fans with a place to relax, while freeing up space on the ground floor as they wait for the concert to begin.

Will it boost the city's economy?

Although the GNP Seguros Stadium renovation project took almost two years, the actual reconstruction took just 177 effective days. Moyao also highlights that over 710,000 man-hours were worked, involving around 1,000 people. Simultaneously, 15 companies were involved, and 24,436 shell-type seats were installed. The total investment cost was approximately 2.3 billion pesos (€106,950,000), creating 19,000 direct and indirect jobs. The head of the CDMX government, Martí Batres, celebrated the reopening of the venue, hoping that this event will have a positive impact on the capital's economy.

Not just concerts

Foro Sol was established in 1993 on the grounds of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The venue was initially built to host large-scale music concerts. Originally named Autódromo, it had a capacity of up to 50,000 people. From 2000 to 2014, it also served as a baseball stadium for the Diablos Rojos del México and Tigres de México teams. Since 2015, Foro Sol has been the host of the Mexican Grand Prix, and since 2016, it has also hosted the Mexico City ePrix. The venue's upgrades will also benefit Formula 1 participants during the Mexican Grand Prix, who often struggle with the high temperatures prevalent during the race's main event.
