Spain: Getafe will play season 2024/25 with Coliseum on jerseys It's not often that stadiums appear on players' uniforms, and even rarer in this form. Getafe CF and Joma, however, have found a creative way to honor the Coliseum. The Azulones facility on the new jerseys, however, will only be noticed by a skilled observer or stadium enthusiast.

26 years at the Coliseum

Until 1996, Getafe CF played at the city-owned Campo Municipal de las Margaritas, but the demolition of the facility forced the Azulones to temporarily move and build a new stadium. On August 30, 1998, the Azulones took to the turf of the Coliseum for the first time, but succumbed to CF Talavera, a third division (then Segunda B) rival 0:1.

Founded in 1983, the team experienced its golden era precisely at the Coliseum. In 2004 Getafe was promoted to the Primera División for the first time, and three years later the Azulones made their debut in European competition, reaching the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. Since then, they have managed to do it again twice, in 2010 and 2019.

Back to the roots

Despite the Coliseum's quirky appearance and poor attendance, the stadium has found its way into the foreground of Getafe's home uniforms for the 2024/25 season. A keen eye will spot the distinctive silhouette of Azulones’ facility in the dark patches on a blue background. In addition, on the inside of the back are written the results and rivals of all matches played at the Coliseum, while the neck bears the stadium's logo and the year it was built - 1998.

Deportivo Alavés also wore uniforms with Mendizzorroza's picture on them in April of this year for the stadium's centenary, but only for one match and in a more classic form, next to the club crest on the chest.

Getafe's away uniforms, on the other hand, represent a full journey into the past, as - in addition to a nod to the Coliseum - the red away uniforms refer to those of 1994, the first year of the partnership with current sponsor Joma. The third set, white, refers to the jerseys in which Club Getafe Deportivo players made their debut in 1946, considered by many to be the forerunner of Getafe, founded 37 years later.
