Spain: Changes around Estadio La Cartuja in Seville Both the Seville City Council and the Government of Andalusia have decided to significantly upgrade the infrastructure around Estadio de la Cartuja. The main aim is to improve access to the arena and provide a better environment for visitors. To this end, a new car park and better road links will be created.

New car park and road links

Estadio la Cartuja, built in 1999, has long suffered from a lack of adequate road infrastructure in the area. Limited access to the venue during major events, made access difficult and a nightmare for fans.

Current plans call for the construction of a car park with more than 12,000 parking areas, which will be equipped with photovoltaic panels producing 25 megawatts of energy. This energy will power the stadium and the surrounding Cartuja Technology Park.

As part of the upgrade, new access roads will be built, including three lanes each way and a roundabout connecting Estadio de la Cartuja with Américo Vespucio Street. In addition, the stadium will be directly connected to the SE-30 and SE-20 main ring roads. A new avenue is also planned to connect the current Avenida del Ocio roundabout to the southern part of the stadium.

Public transport and cycling

Public transport and cycling will also be improved. The city is considering extending the Cercanías suburban railway line to Avenida de Blas Infante with an interchange station for the metro. In addition, a new railway stop is planned at Torretriana, south of Isla de la Cartuja.

The existing cycle path in the technology park will be extended and the Tussam 2 and C2 bus lines will have increased frequency. The first phase of work is expected to be completed by July 2025, before Real Betis move to Estadio de la Cartuja due to the renovation of Benito Villamarín. The next phase of modernisation will begin in the second half of 2025.

Sevilla Mayor José Luis Sanz, Minister of Tourism, Sport and Culture Arturo Bernal, Secretary General of Sport José María Arrabal and other local officials attended the meeting on these plans.
