Big barrel ready
A few days ago, the full installation of the barrel cladding, which covers the stadium's roof, was completed. Unique, eye-catching aluminum panels
help distinguish the new Everton Stadium. The barrel roof consists of 872 panels (436 each on the east and west stands) that wrap around the stadium.
Each panel weighs 250 kg and is placed in position by a specially designed robotic arm.
The installation process of all panels was described as complex and time-consuming. The barrel shape and flexible panels pose several new challenges for the installation team.
What's next?
Currently, work is also underway on the pitch. Planting of the grass is planned to begin in August. We are currently focusing on the initial stages of installing ducts and utilities. SEL Environmental will return around July to install the rootzone layers, all drainage and irrigation, and also build up the layers. We hope to begin planting grass seeds in August,
explained Ben Williams, the manager overseeing the pitch work, in an interview on the club's official YouTube account a few weeks ago.
After the seeding is completed in early October, synthetic fibers will be stitched into the grass roots, covering about 5% of the pitch surface, strengthening the growing grass.
