Poland: Łódź stadiums not for Israeli teams after all! This is the kind of plot twist we enjoy! Just a moment ago, we reported that Israeli clubs would be playing their matches at stadiums in Łódź, and now we have the city’s response on the matter. However, it seems that this issue should have been resolved before the official announcement of Maccabi Haifa's performances at the ŁKS stadium.

MAKiS statement

Information about reaching an agreement with Maccabi Haifa and a potential deal with Hapoel Beer Sheva appeared yesterday. The official reactions from the clubs regarding the Israeli teams playing at Widzew Stadium and ŁKS Stadium did not take long to arrive. From these, we learned (or maybe just confirmed?) that the decision lies solely with the Municipal Arena of Culture and Sports (MAKiS). The internet was abuzz, and fans demanded the withdrawal of this idea. And that’s exactly what happened.

Here is the official statement: “In response to media reports regarding the football club Maccabi Haifa playing matches at the Municipal Stadium named after Władysław Król in Łódź, the Municipal Arena of Culture and Sports informs that these matches will not take place. There are also no plans for other Israeli teams to play at other venues in Łódź. The Municipal Stadium named after Władysław Król in Łódź was selected by UEFA and the Polish Football Association (PZPN) as a facility meeting the stringent requirements for hosting UEFA European Cup matches. During negotiations, discussions were held about the potential rental of the stadium for these competitions. However, no agreement was signed, and no agreement will be signed. In this case, and in the case of any event organized in Łódź, the safety of the residents and visitors is the City’s highest priority,” reads the statement.
