At the end of April 2019, a comprehensive renovation of Gewiss Stadium began. The main objective is to eliminate the arches behind the goals and replace them with new, larger, and more modern stands, located right behind the end lines of the field. Currently, the modernization is entering its final phase.

The final stage of construction is underway
The first stage involved the reconstruction of the stand behind the northern goal. The new stand was made available to fans after just a few months, in early October. The second stage was the reconstruction of the eastern stand, preserving its historical façade. These works were carried out a year later.
The completion of the current stage, which began in the summer of 2023, is scheduled for August, so that Atalanta can fully utilize Gewiss Stadium from the start of the 2024/2025 season. The work aims at a complete reconstruction of the Curva Sud Morosini stand and its roof. Right after the end of the 2023/2024 season, a crew entered the stadium with the primary task of finishing the construction of the southern stand.
The home stretch
The target total capacity of the facility will be 24,000 seats, with 18,000 allocated to the southern and northern stands. On June 6, demolition work began on part of the visitor stand. The new sector for visiting team fans will accommodate 1,500 people. The coming weeks will be dedicated to finishing work.
Additionally, two beams, each 94 meters long and weighing 120.6 tons, will be installed. In the next few days, cranes will be set up to lift and position the beams, connecting the two opposite stands along the entire length of the field.
