Como, after being promoted to Serie A, is considering the best way to prepare for its return to the top league after many years. The sports department is focusing on strengthening Cesc Fàbregas' team, while the owners are taking care of the necessary stadium renovation. As reported by La Provincia di Como, several recent meetings between city officials and the club have primarily focused on the renovation.

Starting away
In recent days, Como has sent a request to the Serie A authorities to allow the club to play the first three matches of the new season away. This time will be used to carry out the necessary work at Stadio Sinigaglia. The request will be considered, and a decision will be announced on July 4, the day of the Serie A 2024/25 season schedule draw. The modernization plan aims to minimize the number of matches played away from their home stadium.
The schedule is favorable for Como, as there is a break for international matches on the weekend of September 7-8. Immediately after this break, on September 15, the club plans to return home.
It's not an easy path
A technical coordination meeting was recently held at the stadium,
explained Como Prefect Andrea Polichetti - Work will begin in the next few days.
At the moment, however, the prefectural commission has not granted any permits yet. This is due to the lack of all necessary documents, such as the technical report on wind load protections and the structural design of the platform.
Gathering these documents is not a simple bureaucratic matter: these certificates involve safety checks to ensure the suitability of the structure. This is necessary for Lega Serie A to grant permission to hold matches at the stadium.
Priority: safety
The main goal of the modernization is to increase the stadium's capacity. Teams promoted in a given season are allowed to have a stadium with 10,584 seats, but ultimately Sinigaglia will need to accommodate a minimum of 12,000 spectators. As part of the adaptation work, glass windows protecting against wind will be installed, and the stadium entrance will be renovated. An important aspect is also the monitoring system: not only inside the stadium (with some cameras needing replacement and new ones added around the turnstiles) but also around Sinigaglia and along the route from the parking lot for visiting fans to the stadium.
The municipality has been tasked with creating a monitoring system, connected to the Police Headquarters, covering the northern Grandate parking area and the roads used by buses. At the end of each phase, usability checks will be conducted until the full adaptation of the municipal stadium is completed,
concludes Como Prefect.
